Christopher Antwi-Adjei: Frustrating that we let the win slip

Christopher Antwi-Adjei’s Friday night (14/3) consisted of a mix of emotions after netting his first goal for the Knappen, only to see the game ultimately end in defeat following his substitution.

“It is really frustrating that we let the win slip from our grasp,” said the right-footed player. “To concede two goals as we did, in such a short period of time, just can’t be allowed to happen. Normally, we see out that game but that just wasn’t the case this time around.” Antwi-Adjei also explained his disappointment for the fans, who “provided unbelievable support, as ever, and we are immensely grateful for that.”

That backing made his first goal in Schalke colours all the more special as he netted in front of the home fans. “It was a really incredible moment,” revealed the winger, who grabbed the opener on 27 minutes. He nevertheless shared the gutting feeling come full-time. “We had kept Hannover out for so long but then conceded twice in the blink of an eye,” explained Antwi-Adjei.

I thought we played well even if it wasn’t our best performance.

The 31-year-old went on to say that even a draw would have been a frustrating result, since the hosts repeatedly had the chance to put the game to bed: “I thought we played well even if it wasn’t our best performance. In contrast to our showing in Berlin, we began the second half in positive fashion, creating opportunities and not giving much away. You always leave your opponents with a chance if you don’t add to the score line, though.”

Friday’s goalscorer emphasised that he would need a day or so to get over the result but after that, focus would then shift to the next task at hand. “International breaks are always more welcome when you’ve just secured three points,” told Antwi-Adjei. “We will analyse the game and look to see what we can improve on ahead of the next clash in Fürth.”
