Blendi Idrizi: I want to score and assist more goals
The winter break actually came at an unfortunate time for midfielder Blendi Idrizi. Towards the end of 2023, the Kosovan had regained his place in the side and impressed on the final two matchdays, scoring in Rostock on matchday 16 and then setting up Keke Topp with a lovely assist against Fürth at home.
Idrizi’s good form has continued at the start of the new year too. The midfielder scored to make it 2-0 in the friendly against KAS Eupen on Saturday (13/1), rounding off another nice move by the team. “We are doing a lot of work in training and are getting a lot more used to playing with one another, which is why we’re doing better in games too,” explained Idrizi. The first goal of the afternoon, scored by Simon Terodde, also came from a move practiced on the training ground. “We feel comfortable on the pitch and are getting better with each game,” he praised.
That improvement applies to both the team and Idrizi. Although the 25-year-old spent most of the first half of the season on the sidelines, he always kept his head up, an attitude that impressed coach Karel Geraerts and led to him giving him a chance. Since then, Idrizi has played on the right side of the three-man central midfield, injecting life into S04’s attack with his commitment and passes in behind the opposition defence.
We feel good right now.
Idrizi will once again be looking to put in a committed display when Hamburger SV are in town on Saturday (20/1). Schalke’s number 18 believes the Royal Blues are well prepared for the clash with the side sat in third at the start of 2024. “We feel good right now,” he said, adding that the team want to climb the table as quickly as possible and secure as many wins as they can in the remainder of the season.
The Bonn-born midfielder has set himself a few personal targets for the second half of the campaign. “I want to be playing regularly, perform consistently and score and assist more goals.” Idrizi, who has won six caps for Kosovo to date, is currently on one goal and two assists in just 263 minutes of action this term.
