Danny Latza: We want to inspire the fans

More than 50,000 fans at the VELTINS-Arena, going up against his former club and the recent birth of his second child – Danny Latza has several reasons to be pumped up for Sunday’s (7/11) home game against SV Darmstadt 98, who Latza played for between 2011 and 2013. “We want to lift the fans and inspire them. The opposition needs to feel straight away that there’s nothing to take away at Schalke.”

“Passion, power, energy,” the captain underlined the attributes he and his teammates want to bring to the pitch on Sunday to ensure all three points stay in Gelsenkirchen. Latza praised the training intensity of the whole team in the past week. It’s been a very special week for the midfielder, not only because of his return to the starting eleven after a knee injury, but also because of the birth of his second child. „It’s a wonderful feeling. We are very happy,“ said Latza.

The S04 captain took his partner and newborn son Julian home from the hospital on Wednesday. “They’re both doing well, they’re healthy and cheerful,” said Latza, before adding that the past few nights have been calm and quiet. “Let’s hope it stays that way,” he laughed.

On the pitch, Latza wants to build on the run of successful results before the recent two defeats going into the Darmstadt game. „We have learned our lessons from the past two games,“ he explained. „We have to get better in the final third. In Heidenheim in particular, we lacked that breakthrough power. Against Darmstadt, we have to create more chances and then take them, like we did in the 3-0 win over Dynamo Dresden in our last home game.“
