Danny Latza: We need to be on it from the first whistle

Midfielder Danny Latza has fond memories of playing against Schalke’s upcoming opponents. The club captain made his return from injury after three months out in the reverse fixture against Dynamo Dresden. “Being back from injury was a great feeling,” reflected Latza. Overall, that evening in October 2021 was a great one for the Royal Blues, who won 3-0 in front of more than 50,000 fans at the VELTINS-Arena.

That comeback wasn’t the only one Latza has made this season. He’s also had to undergo an appendix operation and recover from a Covid-19 infection. In situations like these, Latza believes it’s important to remain positive, otherwise “it can take longer to return.” The 32-year-old added: “That’s why I was always fully focused on getting back on the pitch as soon as possible.”

Latza is extremely looking forward to Friday’s game in Dresden (1/4). “I’ve already played there in my career and I know about the atmosphere in that stadium. We will need to be on it from the first whistle and play our own game.”
