Dimitrios Grammozis: We lost our concentration at the start

After Schalke’s 2-1 defeat to Karlsruher SC on Friday evening (17/9), both head coaches spoke to the media, as well as Marius Bülter.

Dimitrios Grammozis

Dimitrios Grammozis:

We wanted to get another win after two in a row to start a little run off. We started really badly today. We didn’t start the game with the right energy – unlike our opponents – and lost our concentration. We improved minute by minute after going behind. It was a real midfield battle tonight. We got the equaliser because we looked to get high up the pitch – and Simon Terodde was in the right place once again. We began the second half well, and if Marcin Kaminski’s goal had counted, then we would have been a lot more secure. We didn’t have enough control with the ball after the red card and they enjoyed the majority of possession then. Marvin Wanitzek scored a fantastic goal, one he probably won’t manage every day. We know that it’s a long and rocky road. We will continue on our way and remain positive so that we can hopefully take three points next time.

Christian Eichner:

My team did exactly what we had asked them to do today right from the off. They were brave in attack and looked to force mistakes from the opposition. Our opening goal put us in a great position. After that, Schalke came into the game more and then we let them back into it after an individual error. We both had a similar number of chances, so the score at half time was fair. The most difficult period was just after the break, when they had a goal ruled out for offside. It felt like Schalke had an overload in the final third, though we didn’t allow them many chances. The red card then swung the match in our favour.

Marius Bülter:

We wanted to put in a good performance tonight, however we weren’t able to play to our best. Conceding another goal at the death is extremely frustrating – we need to sort that out. The start to the match was really unfortunate, but we reacted well and got the equaliser. After that, we didn’t put enough pressure on to really go ahead. Overall, it wasn’t a good game from us.
