Loris Karius: We’ve become a real unit where everyone gives 100%
Schalke ran out 3-0 winners away at Hannover 96 on Friday evening (17/10). After the final whistle, both head coaches shared their thoughts on the match, while Loris Karius and director of professional football Youri Mulder also reflected on the victory.
Miron Muslic:
I’m very pleased and proud, that was a strong team performance. With structure and intensity, we managed to take away many of Hannover’s strengths in possession. We stayed compact, were quick and efficient, and dangerous from set pieces. In every phase of the game we had clear patterns of play, but we’re also continuing to make progress and that only happens when everything is clear and the team spirit is strong. That’s our biggest strength right now, and today we took another small step forward. We want to keep moving along this path by being bold in our play, not just in our words.
Christian Titz:
Congratulations to Schalke, we lost this game in the first 15 to 20 minutes. We gave the ball away, and their early goal was very well taken, but it was a real blow for us. Then we conceded from a set piece – we know how strong Schalke are from them – and from there it was always going to be a very difficult game. It took us a while to recover, and if one of the two disallowed goals had stood, things could have turned again. After the break we had a lot of possession, but we knew Schalke would remain dangerous. The third goal then killed the game off completely.
Loris Karius:
I’m really happy we were able to win so convincingly against such a strong side. We’ve become a real unit where everyone knows their role and gives 100%. Everyone’s pushing themselves to their limit. When the team is performing well, it makes life easier for the goalkeeper and vice versa. It’s great that we’re defending so solidly and keeping clean sheets, and I’m glad to play my part in that. Against a quality team like Hannover you can’t keep them completely quiet, the league is too competitive for that, but in the end, we fully deserved the win. We want to carry this confidence into the next games.
Youri Mulder:
There are a lot of positives to take from tonight. For example, Mauro Zalazar’s debut, or the way Finn Porath came on and gave us another good spark late on. I’m also delighted for Moussa Sylla – as a striker, scoring again after a while feels fantastic. You could almost sense it was going in the moment he hit it. He didn’t let the pressure get to him or start overthinking things, he just stayed calm and focused. Christian Gomis also got his reward today, and that goes for the whole team. Once again, we managed to put the opposition under real pressure right from the start and that was key to our success.
