Ron Schallenberg: You normally should win when you score three goals

S04 were beaten on the opening matchday in Hamburg despite scoring three goals. schalke04.de has summarised the most important quotes from both coaches, Ron Schallenberg and Simon Terodde after the 5-3 defeat on Friday night (28/7).

Thomas Reis:

HSV definitely deserved the win when you look back at the whole 90 minutes. We didn’t start well and HSV showed what we expected them to. They played great football and kept trying to play one-twos that would get them into dangerous areas. Our clinical nature in front of goal was good in the first half. We wanted to be more solid after the break and didn’t really manage that. To score three goals here and take nothing from the game is disappointing. We will learn from the things we didn’t do well tonight.

Tim Walter:

I’m really satisfied with my team. We started well, took the lead early on and then created a number of chances thanks to our flexibility up front. Going into the break behind wasn’t a great feeling, but we never lost belief and were full of passion and energy. We showed that we wanted to keep pushing forward in the second half. Something just clicked again after their equaliser. The red card played into our hands and then Glatzel and Dompé got late goals to seal the win. You deserve to win the game if you create as many chances as we did. We also know that we have to do a few things better.

Ron Schallenberg:

Conceding five goals is far too many. You normally should win in Hamburg if you score three goals. Nevertheless, despite scoring three times, we deserved to lose in my opinion. We had the luck on our side in the first half. That wasn’t the case after the break, but we cannot have any complaints. Things like conceding a penalty and having a man sent off can happen when you face that many attacks. We’ve still got 33 matchdays to go – our focus is now on Kaiserslautern and we’ll give our all next week.

Simon Terodde:

It was extremely loud here, just as I expected. We would have been happy with a point in the end, but Hamburg deserved to get the win. We know that they are really good with the ball at their feet and it’s always going to be tough when you have a man sent off. Assan Ouédraogo showed what he has been doing in training. He’s a good lad and will really help us. He was a bright spark tonight and we’ll continue to help his development.
