Yusuf Kabadayi: It was a complete team performance
Yusuf Kabadayi’s experience of the home win against FC St. Pauli went beyond the full-time whistle on Friday (1/3). The attacker, who scored a brace in the 3-1 win against the league leaders, was one of the players selected for a doping test. However, the Germany U20 international also overcame this hurdle after a short while. He used the waiting time to review the special evening again.
“It’s a great feeling to score two goals,” Kabadayi said. “This game was certainly one of my career highlights so far. I’m still at a loss for words. I’m just happy.” Nevertheless, the loanee from Bayern München doesn’t feel like the match winner as “we won the game as a collective. It was a complete team performance. Every player played his part in the victory, regardless of whether they were on the pitch or not. Everyone was involved.”
A few friends witnessed the win live at the ground
The right-footed youngster was included in the starting eleven for the first time in the second half of the season against St. Pauli. “I’m glad that the coach placed his trust in me,” Kabadayi explained. “I was ready and I really wanted to help the team!” Kabadayi showed good anticipation for his first goal. “I know Simon and knew that he would let the ball roll through,” the 20-year-old said. With his second goal, he also gambled that the rebound could land at his feet. “It was an outstanding feeling when the ball went into the back of the net,” Kabadayi went on to say.
The win was an important step for us as a team.
Alongside passion, commitment and an overall good performance with a few highlights, the attacker also listed internal discussions during the week as one of the reasons behind the successful evening at a sold-out VELTINS-Arena, where a few of his best friends were in the stands. “The win was an important step for us as a team,” Kabadayi emphasised. “We certainly won’t go crazy just because we’ve won against the league leaders. The table still doesn’t look good. We’ve still got a lot of work ahead of us and we need to build on this performance as a team and follow it up in the coming weeks.”
