Kenan Karaman: I want to lead from the front and help the team

FC Schalke 04’s captain Kenan Karaman has served his suspension for a red card and is available again for Saturday’s away game at Fortuna Düsseldorf (10/5). Ahead of the meeting with his former club, Karaman spoke to the media about topics like the club’s change of head coach and the table.

Kenan Karaman on…

…Jakob Fimpel:
We really respect the fact that Jakob was immediately prepared to help us and take on the responsibility during our current situation. We now need to pay back his trust in us by performing well. We already worked with Jakob earlier this season. He provides the group with lots of energy and knowledge.

…the table:
Everything is in our own hands. We need just a point to ensure we avoid relegation. I’m certain that we’ll get at least a point, though it won’t be easy. We all know what the table looks like right now and, after the Paderborn defeat, we have agreed as a team that everybody has to be fully focused in training and in games.

We have to put in a much better performance than we did last time out against Paderborn.

…his suspension:
Having to watch two games from the stands is not a nice situation to be in, so I’m happy that I’m available to play again now. I want to lead from the front and help the team.

…facing his former club:
It’s always nice to see some familiar faces but that’s not ultimately important this weekend. I’m expecting a high-intensity game in Düsseldorf. They will still be looking to pick up points to maintain their chance of promotion. They lost the relegation play-off last year and will be desperate to go one better this season. For us though, the important thing is how we play. We have to put in a much better performance than we did last time out against Paderborn.
