Karel Geraerts: It wasn’t a good performance
Karel Geraerts and Marcel Rapp summarised Schalke 04's 1-0 away loss against Holstein Kiel on Sunday (11/2) after the final whistle. Marius Müller and Simon Terodde also spoke to journalists about the disappointing defeat.
Karel Geraerts:
The players tried everything. They worked hard today. It wasn’t a good performance, especially when we had the ball. We needed to play much better than that away from home against such a good side. Kiel had 22 shots, we only had five. It shows that we didn’t have a good day. The home match against Wehen Wiesbaden next weekend promises to be a proper fight and we’ve got to try and win.
Marcel Rapp:
We aimed to push ourselves to our limits because we knew that we’d have to. The boys did that impressively on the pitch today. We were aggressive, won the ball back a lot and were creative in possession.
Marius Müller:
I don’t know why we find it so difficult to play away from home. We’ve got a tough second half of the season coming up. We’ve got to try and find solutions, stop making so many mistakes and put in a completely different performance in our next match.
Simon Terodde:
Kiel deserved to win. They were clearly the better side in the first half. Conceding from a set-piece is annoying. We worked very hard off the ball. If we’re being honest with ourselves, we didn’t manage to create enough going forward. After we went 1-0 down, we took our foot off the gas and hardly put any pressure on them.
