Kenan Karaman lifts 2. Bundesliga Meisterschale to huge applause
FC Schalke 04 secured the 2. Bundesliga title two weeks ago, with two games to spare. On Sunday (17/5), just a few minutes after the final whistle in their 1-0 win over Eintracht Braunschweig, the Royal Blues were officially honoured for their outstanding campaign.
Kenan Karaman received the 2. Bundesliga Meisterschale in front of the fans inside a sold-out VELTINS-Arena – a special moment for the captain and his teammates, who had been looking forward to it for several days.
The trophy was presented by DFL managing directors Dr Marc Lenz and Dr Steffen Merkel. The pair had earlier presented every Schalke player with their winners’ medal, again to huge applause. The team then celebrated the title out on the pitch together with the fans in the stands.
04th 2. Bundesliga title
This is Schalke’s fourth 2. Bundesliga title. The Royal Blues also finished top of the table in 1981/82, 1990/91 and 2021/22. The club also returned to the Bundesliga in 1984 after finishing second. With this latest title, the current squad have now added their own chapter to the club’s history.
The Meisterschale for the 2. Bundesliga champions has been awarded since the 2008/09 season. Its design is based on the Bundesliga Meisterschale and features a distinctive mountain crystal at its centre. All champions of the 2. Bundesliga since the 1981/82 season are engraved on its panels – including FC Schalke 04 once again.
