Marius Müller: Stay grounded – from Monday, only Paderborn matters
After seven minutes of stoppage time on Friday (1/3), Marius Müller raised his fist in the air as referee Daniel Siebert finally blew for full time. The goalkeeper knew immediately just how important the 3-1 win over FC St. Pauli was, and was relieved that his side put in an improved performance on the pitch after the team meeting earlier in the week.
“I think the step we made on Monday was a very, very important one. We shut the doors for two hours and spoke openly and honestly with each other,” reported the goalkeeper. The 30-year-old praised Karel Geraerts’ bold match plan. “The coach got it absolutely right. Sometimes you have to go in all guns blazing when no one’s expecting it,” said Müller.
Our fans gave us great support from the stands and we put in a cohesive performance on the pitch.
The ‘keeper reveals that he had goosebumps after all three goals. “It’s so rewarding to be able to make so many people happy by doing your job,” said Müller. “I’m just pleased and very grateful to have been able to experience this. Our fans gave us great support from the stands and we put in a cohesive performance on the pitch.”
The result against St. Pauli will need to be built upon over the coming weeks. “We can enjoy the moment for now, but we have to keep our feet on the ground. From Monday, only Paderborn will matter – no one will be talking about St. Pauli anymore.”
