Karel Geraerts: I’ll take the positives from the game

Schalke managed to come away from a dramatic encounter with SC Paderborn with a point thanks to Keke Topp’s equaliser in added time. The Royal Blues were 2-0 up at one stage, before being pegged back to 2-2 by the visitors, who took the lead in the closing stages. Karel Geraerts and Lukas Kwasniok spoke about their sides’ performances in the post-match press conference, while Bryan Lasme and Simon Terodde were also interviewed after the final whistle.

Karel Geraerts:

At the end of the day, both teams have to accept the result. It feels a bit more like a defeat, but Lukas Kwasniok probably feels the same way. I’ll take the positives from the game, though. We showed mental strength, came back and scored the goal to make it 3-3. If you asked us just after the Magdeburg game, we’d have snatched your hand off for four points from these past two games. Obviously, we let the 2-0 lead slip, but I’m still proud of the team and the fact that they came back.

Lukas Kwasniok:

The fans got their money’s worth! When all’s said and done, we’re happy with the point. We have a young set of players who have a lot of potential to improve. You wouldn’t necessarily expect them to stick at it and turn the game around in the way they did after going 2-0 down. We’re happy with the performance and with the point.

Bryan Lasme:

We got off to a good start, but we should’ve been more focused at the end of the match. The three points would’ve really helped us out. It goes without saying that we’re disappointed, because we were 2-0 up at one point. It was good to get on the scoresheet again, since I’ve been working really hard. I hope that I can keep it up.

Simon Terodde:

The referee explained that, unfortunately, there wasn’t enough contact. I felt it, though. If you watch it back closely, it might look soft, but in real time it seemed like a hard challenge.

Paderborn played well in the second half. We’ll have to take the point. We need to keep this positivity up, since we’ve picked up four points in our last two games against good opposition.
