Keke Topp: Proved the morale in the side once again

Keke Topp finished off the scoring in a truly end-to-end game and helped rescue a point for his side in the process. The striker, who came on as a substitute, finished brilliantly in additional time in the home game against SC Paderborn 07 on Saturday (09/07) to level the game up at 3-3.

After a long ball from Tomas Kalas, Kenan Karaman flicked a header into Topp. The 19-year-old clipped the ball over one player, dribbled past David Kinsombi and clinically finished with his left foot from the centre of the penalty area. “It was just instinct; I didn’t think about it. The ball came from behind me, so I couldn’t control it any other way. The finish was also not bad, it was really cool,” said Topp with a smile on his face as he discussed his second goal of the season.

The attacker wasn’t totally satisfied though, with ‘die Knappen’ having surrendered a two-goal lead earlier in the game. “I would have rather got the three points. We let Paderborn get on a roll and then it is difficult to knock our opponents off it again,” said Topp, who saw positives for the team to take away over the course of 100 minutes against Paderborn. Topp suggested that after the setback of going behind, the team showed morale once again in managing to get an equaliser. He added that picking up four points against St. Pauli and Paderborn was a good tally, even if more was possible against SCP.

In the last few weeks as well, we haven’t just had an extra twelfth man on the pitch, it’s been like 13 or 14. You saw that again today. Despite going 3-2 down the Kurve was rocking.

Keke Topp

Topp wanted to thank the fans once again for pushing the team forward over the course of the whole game. “In the last few weeks as well, we haven’t just had an extra twelfth man on the pitch, it’s been like 13 or 14. You saw that again today. Despite going 3-2 down the Kurve was rocking,” emphasised Topp. “It is so loud, and then you just get emotional, you want it more and more. That was one of the reasons that we managed to get the goal to make it 3-3.”
