Squad update ahead of first pre-season training session
Following the completion of internal performance and medical tests, FC Schalke 04 are set for their first training session under new head coach Miron Muslic on Saturday (21/6). The session will be open to the public and will begin at 10:45 CEST, with several members of the squad unable to take part.

Taylan Bulut will not be taking part in today’s session, as the right-back is currently away taking part in the U19 EUROs in Romania. After a 2-1 win against Norway U19s in their final group stage match, the team have advanced to the semi-finals, where they will face Spain U19s on Monday (23/6).
Moussa Sylla and Ibrahima Cissé are also both still on holiday, having been away on international duty with Mali at the end of the 2024/25 season.
Loris Karius, who recently extended his contract with the Royal Blues until 2027, is working individually. The goalkeeper had picked up a muscle injury in his left calf away in Fürth in late March. Emil Højlund, Aris Bayinder (both carrying knocks) and Bryan Lasme (missed the last weeks of training during his loan spell at Grasshoppers due to injury) are also all working individually. Tomas Kalas (knee pain) is also not able to train currently.
Zaid Tchibara is still working on his comeback after having torn the ACL in his right knee during what was only his second first-team appearance for Schalke back in February against Darmstadt.
Lino Tempelmann will also not be part of the session as he has been given permission to pursue talks on a new contract. The midfielder had spent the second half of last season on loan at Eintracht Braunschweig.
Yassin Ben Balla from the S04 reserves will be part of the squad for the training session, having recently extended his contract with the club’s U23s. He came on in Schalke’s final game of the 2024/25 season against SV Elversberg and scored in a 2-1 defeat. He will continue to take part in first-team training for the time being.
