Simon Terodde: We were clinical in front of goal

Schalke’s front two of Marius Bülter (hat-trick) and Simon Terodde (brace) got all five goals in Sunday’s 5-2 win in Darmstadt (17/4). Both head coaches and Terodde spoke to the media after the game.

SV Darmstadt 98 - FC Schalke 04

Mike Büskens:

We knew it would be a difficult and intense game, where we’d need to be focused throughout. We weren’t at the start and let them score two fairly easy goals. We didn’t defend their crosses well enough. All things considered, we beat a team that will fight for promotion until the final matchday 5-2, so we’re really happy. We’ll gladly take the three points with us and we’ve extended our lead, but we still know we haven’t achieved anything yet.

Torsten Lieberknecht:

Congratulations to Schalke 04 on the win. I would also like to wish Danny Latza a speedy recovery. We played brilliantly at the start of today’s game and deservedly went ahead. We found the perfect response to going 2-1 down, but I think we were slightly unlucky today and Schalke were just really clinical. We fought against the defeat with lots of passion. We’ll look to the future now despite this 5-2 loss. We’ll dust ourselves down and remain on track.

Simon Terodde:

This match had it all. As we saw today, games at the back end of a season are often very unpredictable. We kept our cool after going 1-0 down. Strikers are there to decide games for their teams. We remained level-headed as we knew we had plenty of time. Rodri’s cross came in and you just have to be clinical in front of goal – which we were. We knocked the stuffing out of Darmstadt in the second half, though they never gave up. Ultimately, all that matters is getting the win and we did that. Both sets of fans made for a great atmosphere. There was plenty of emotion on show at the end with the fans. You just have to soak up moments like that.
