Squad update ahead of first training session of pre-season

Pre-season for the 2023/24 campaign kicks off for FC Schalke 04’s first team at 11:00 CEST on Monday 26th June at Parkstadion. Six members of the squad are set to miss the first team training session, which will be streamed live on S04’s official YouTube channel.

Goalkeeper Ralf Fährmann will initially complete a running session as he recovers from a calf muscle strain and will be gradually integrated into the team sessions over the course of pre-season.

Rodrigo Zalazar and Kenan Karaman are currently on holiday after being on international duty following the end of the club season. They will return to Gelsenkirchen on 3rd July. Ibrahima Cissé and Henning Matriciani are currently still away with their respective national teams at the U21 European Championship. Depending on how far their teams go in the tournament, they will come back somewhat later to pre-season.

Dries Wouters, who was most recently out on loan, is currently in the final stages of negotiating a permanent deal, which is expected to be completed in the coming days. Therefore, he will also miss the first session of pre-season.
