Keke Topp: A childhood dream come true

“It was incredible – my childhood dream came true,” said Topp on his first competitive goal for Schalke. “I just saw the ball hit the back of the net and then I couldn’t control my emotions. I was so happy and kept screaming in jubilation.”

Topp’s goal to make it 1-0 was both his and Schalke’s reward for a strong performance in the first half. Nevertheless, the Royal Blues couldn’t secure all three points as it ended 2-2 against Fürth, a scoreline that Topp felt was fair on both sides. “After we were the better team in the first half, Fürth were in control after the break,” commented the 19-year-old, who was disappointed at the final whistle, despite his maiden goal in professional football. “We were desperate to go into the winter break with a win,” he stressed. “I’m proud of how hard we fought, particularly in the final 10 minutes with 10 men.”

Topp feels that the Royal Blues are now on the right track with seven points from their last three games following an unsatisfactory start to the season. “We need to take this momentum into the winter break with us and then be ready for the start of the second half of the season,” stated the attacker, who is now looking forward to a few days off over the Christmas period. “It’ll be good to switch off a bit and focus on some other things.”
