Around 2,400 fans in attendance for the start of pre-season

FC Schalke 04 began preparations for the 2023/24 season with the first training session of pre-season on Monday (26/6) at the Parkstadion. Head coach Thomas Reis had 23 players at his disposal in front of around 2,400 fans. The players completed medical and fitness tests over the weekend prior to the first training session.

The players and coaching staff arrived on the Parkstadion pitch just after 11:00 CEST to loud applause from the fans in attendance. Click here for a gallery of pictures from today. All four new signings made last week – midfielders Ron Schallenberg (SC Paderborn 07) and Paul Seguin (Union Berlin), attacker Bryan Lasme (Arminia Bielefeld) and goalkeeper Marius Müller (FC Luzern) – were all in training for the first time.

There were also two youngsters involved in first-team training in striker Keke Topp and midfielder Assan Ouedraogo. The latter won the U17 European Championship with Germany just a few weeks ago.

Marius Bülter was only able to complete some light training after recently suffering from food poisoning. Ralf Fährmann was also unable to fully train after a muscle strain, instead only doing some running. Rodrigo Zalazar and Kenan Karaman are still on holiday following their time away with their national sides, while Ibrahima Cissé and Henning Matriciani are still on international duty. Dries Wouters, who spent last season out on loan, is close to agreeing a move with another club.

The warm-up was followed by some passing exercises and other drills in small groups. The 70-minute session ended with a game between two sides. Fans then got the chance to receive some autographs and take some pictures with the S04 players afterwards.
