Victor Pálsson: The best and most emotional wins

Victor Pálsson missed the games against Rostock and Ingolstadt due to a red-card suspension, but returned to the starting XI to captain the Royal Blues during Friday’s 1-0 win in Hanover (15/10). The midfielder also set up Marcin Kaminski’s match-winning strike deep into injury time.

After a cross from Dominick Drexler, Pálsson was able to get on the end of it and head it to Kaminski, who controlled the ball before burying it in the left corner. Kaminski had recorded two chances on goal already by that point, having had one saved by Ron-Robert Zieler (53’) and sending one over the bar (55’). Pálsson has been involved in setting up both those chances for his teammate as well. “I’m happy that I was able to help out the team again and that we picked up three points,” he said after having featured for the first time since serving a two-match ban following his red card against Karlsruher SC.

Pálsson praises performance by Hannover’s goalkeeper Zieler

The win in Hanover was fully deserved, said the 30-year-old, as the team delivered an extremely strong performance. The winning goal came deep into injury time, which always results in the “best and most emotional victories,” said Pálsson. The Royal Blues were kept at bay for the majority of the match due to a strong showing from Hannover’s goalkeeper. “Ron-Robert Zieler made some great saves,” said Pálsson as he praised the keeper, who was taken off injured in the 78th minute.

You couldn't ask for a better night. That was really, really great.

Schalke were playing to win right until the end, and refused to give up, being loudly cheered on by the thousands of Royal Blue fans in attendance. “The fans were fantastic, as always,” said Pálsson, who added that it felt as though the team were playing at home in the VELTINS-Arena. “You couldn’t ask for a better night. That was really, really great.”
