Thomas Reis: Should have seen the game out

Despite creating more chances and keeping things tighter at the back than in recent weeks, FC Schalke 04 could only pick up a point away to SV Wehen Wiesbaden on Saturday (2/9). schalke04.de has summarised the post-match reaction.

Thomas Reis:

Today was a disappointing afternoon for us. We started well and were playing some nice football. We were compact, didn’t let them have much space and they only had one chance in the first half. We unfortunately lacked a bit of a cutting edge in the final third. They changed things somewhat in the second half, but we did well after the first five minutes and deserved to take the lead. We then should have seen the game out. Wehen Wiesbaden never gave up and we made them look good at the end. We had a chance to seal the win ourselves, but were unlucky as we hit the post. We have to acknowledge the chance was there for us to take all three points today.

Markus Kauczinski:

We weren’t happy with the first half. We couldn’t get out from the back and Schalke defended resolutely. We kept losing possession far too soon. We played with more bravery in the second half, had three or four good moves and managed to get the ball towards their goal, before eventually making it 1-1.

Cedric Brunner:

We put in a decent performance for 60 minutes, especially in comparison to our last few games. I think we deserved to win today. We scored and went ahead, but then invited them onto us in the final 15 minutes, it wasn’t good enough. We dominated large parts of the game, only to ruin it for ourselves at the end. We have to analyse the closing stages and then improve against Magdeburg.
