Alexander Nübel: The whole team won the match today

The two head coaches both agreed after the final whistle on Sunday (31/3) that the Royal Blues had luck on their side and a fine goalkeeper too. schalke04.de has summarised the post-match reactions from Huub Stevens and Thomas Doll. Alexander Nübel and Head of Sport Jochen Schneider also gave their views on the win in Hannover.

Alexander Nübel

Huub Stevens:

It was a hard-fought victory. With a bit of luck on our side and a very good goalkeeper, we managed to take the three points. I’m happy with the result, but not the game. You can’t expect anything to be easy in our current situation. You have to fight for points – which is what we did. I hope that the win will give the lads some confidence. Alexander Nübel was phenomenal in goal. Our fans, who supported us loudly for the whole 90 minutes, were also outstanding.

Thomas Doll:

It was decent performance – unfortunately without any points. It’s clear that we’re totally gutted. We had a few chances to equalise, but Alexander Nübel made a number of quality saves. Schalke had a bit of luck on their side, which made it somewhat harder for us.

Alexander Nübel:

We played well in the first half and got into space at the right times. We didn’t have enough possession in the second half though, which meant it was a bit chaotic. I’m so relieved that we managed to hold on to the lead. Sometimes you need to win ugly. I really enjoyed today’s game; the lads defended well and when they got in behind I was there to save it. I don’t see myself as the match winner. The whole team won the match today.

Jochen Schneider:

We did our job today and got the three points. The win was very important; however it’s only the first step of many we need to take. Our aim for Wednesday is clear: We want to reach the semi-finals.
