Benito Raman: Time to do it in matches

Benito Raman took a knock to his knee in the game against Borussia Mönchengladbach and had to be taken off in the 63rd minute, but the Belgian has since been given the all-clear. “I don’t have any issues – I’m ready to play,” says the attacker as he looks ahead to Sunday’s clash with Bayer Leverkusen.

Raman is hoping that the team puts an end to their poor run of results this weekend. “We are training hard, but we’re not managing to show our quality out on the pitch right now,” says the 26-year-old. “We can play football, we have a good team. This time last year we were up at the top of the table with basically the exact same team. What we’re missing right now is confidence.”

Belgian to become a father for the first time

Raman says that the encouraging video from the fans that was shown before the Gladbach match did a lot of good. “I had already seen the clip on Twitter, and then we watched it again together shortly before kick-off,” says the Belgian, who equalised with a beauty at Borussia-Park.

After the equaliser the Royal Blues had some more good moments and came closer than the Foals to a second goal – but in the end it was Borussia who took a 2-1 lead. “The luck just isn’t on our side right now. The origin of the first goal we conceded shows that,” says Raman. Giving up is not an option for him, however. “We work hard day in, day out – we will be rewarded for that.”

Raman has also been boosted by good news in his personal life. The right-footer will become a father for the first time next summer, which also explains his celebration after the goal in Mönchengladbach. “It was amazing news for me and my wife in these tough times,” said Raman. Some good sports news should follow as soon as possible.
