Blendi Idrizi: Celebration was a thank you for the opportunity I was given

U23s player Blendi Idrizi was one of the happiest men in the VELTINS-Arena after Saturday’s 4-3 win over Eintracht Frankfurt. The midfielder, who was able to score his first goal in only his second Bundesliga game, spoke to schalke04.de about the last few days, his goal, the celebration, and the final game of the season against 1. FC Köln.

Blendi Idrizi on …

… the last few days:
It’s all not really sunk in yet, everything that has happened this past week. I was extremely excited and a little bit nervous too ahead of my debut against Hertha BSC. After the game I was a bit disappointed with my performance and with the result. We had high expectations of ourselves for this game. So I’m all the more pleased we’ve now beaten Frankfurt. I tried to enjoy the game more this time – I was a bit calmer ahead of kick-off than against Hertha as well.

… his goal:
Klaas-Jan Huntelaar set me up beautifully. I just tried driving towards goal and tried to place the ball into the far corner. That first touch was important – my route to goal then felt very long (laughs). I didn’t think about it too much, your instinct kicks in when you’re in those positions.

I just sprinted away when the ball was in. I was over the moon.

his celebration:
After my goal I ran straight to the dugout and hugged Gerald Asamoah to thank him for the opportunity he and the rest of the coaching staff gave me. I hadn’t planned the celebration beforehand – I just sprinted away when the ball was in, I was over the moon. These are the kind of moments you won’t ever forget.

… the final game of the season away to 1. FC Köln:
We will continue to work hard this week so that we can put in another good performance next weekend. I really enjoy being out there on the pitch with my teammates.
