Breel Embolo: It was a bit of a rollercoaster ride
We paid a trip to the VELTINS-Arena mixed zone after the Royal Blues’ 2-1 win over TSG Hoffenheim to get the thoughts of Breel Embolo, Franco Di Santo and Thilo Kehrer.
We ought to have scored three or four goals and can only blame ourselves that it ended up being a tense finish. It could have been a much more relaxing evening, but we will work on that. I don’t think it will be long before we start seeing off games again. In terms of my goals, it was a bit of a rollercoaster ride. I worked hard for the first one and it was a great moment, but then it got ruled out. The decision was correct though, so I didn’t do much complaining. I continued to work hard and then luck was on my side for the second one. I took a gamble and was in the right place at the right time.
We’re glad to come away with the three points. Unfortunately, we weren’t able to take advantage of one of our counterattacks; we need to work on that and make sure we reward ourselves. Still, I think that we deserved the win over the 90 minutes.
Franco di Santo:
It was a really tough match. Hoffenheim are a very strong team, but I think that we were better overall and deserve the win. We pushed hard to put ourselves in a great position at half time, but we allowed them back into the game again after the break. Hoffenheim were really dangerous once they got back within a goal, however, the most important thing was that we were able to get our first home win of 2018. We’re all over the moon.
