Christian Gross: We made too many defensive mistakes

Both head coaches spoke to the media after Saturday’s Revierderby (20/2), as well as Omar Mascarell and Michael Langer.

Christian Gross

Christian Gross:

I’m really disappointed with the result. Losing a derby 4-0 is tough. We made too many defensive mistakes. A lot of things went against us today. We lost Shkodran Mustafi at short notice and then Ralf Fährmann had to go off injured. The first 15 minutes of the second half were good and the game could have gone differently if we had got one back then. It was effectively over when they made it 3-0 though. We need to get our injured players back as soon as possible. There’s not much time left, but we’ll keep on fighting.

Edin Terzic:

I’m really pleased with both the performance and the result. We wanted to leave the ground as winners today and we’ve done just that, so we’re really happy.

Omar Mascarell:

The disappointment is huge. It’s really painful for us, we know how important the derby is for our fans, for the club, for all of us. We didn’t play well. In the first 15 minutes of the second half, we put pressure on them and created chances. If we had scored then, it would have been a different game. The game was decided after the third goal.

Michael Langer:

Every week we try to muster everything we have, even in training, but it didn’t work for us today in an extremely important game. We’re sad, disappointed and angry. We won’t hide. We want to improve week after week. There’s nothing else left to say, we need to focus on ourselves and keep on fighting. That’s what we’ll do.
