Daniel Caligiuri: I’m pleased for our fans most of all!

The Royal Blues celebrated their derby win with their fans on Saturday (27/4). Daniel Caligiuri, Alexander Nübel, Breel Embolo and Benjamin Stambouli all gave their post-match thoughts on the 4-2 win, which schalke04.de has summarised.

Daniel Caligiuri

Daniel Caligiuri:

It’s great to score two goals, but it doesn’t matter who scored. The only important thing is the team. A derby win is always something special and three points are very important in our situation. I’m pleased for our fans most of all! They give everything they can for us, week in, week out and pushed us forwards. We have proven today that we can fight and show a positive mentality. This win will give us the confidence we need for the rest of the season now. We have shown that this team can be successful together. We can proud of ourselves.

Alexander Nübel:

I was really excited for the derby and I’m so happy now. It’s a great feeling to win away at the Black and Yellows. I have to admit that I was worried though, as I’ve never experienced a game like that. You still lose if you are ahead and have more players on the pitch. Breel thankfully found the answer we needed after they’d scored a second. Once we had a fourth, I knew we wouldn’t let it slip.

Breel Embolo:

This win is a relief – for the team and for the fans too. Winning a derby away from home is such a great feeling. I experienced last season after the 4-4 how happy the fans were. The win also feels so great, as nobody had given us a chance before the game. Despite that, I was 100% sure that we would win it today. We have to continue with this mentality. We’ll enjoy the win until Monday, and then we will work hard again.

Benjamin Stambouli:

I said before the game that we had to believe in ourselves. If you do that, you can achieve anything. You do anything you want with enough passion and will. The fans’ support was excellent once again. We have made a lot of mistakes in the past few weeks, but we’ve now been able to give our fans something back. I won’t forget the moments after the final whistle for a while. They were truly special.
