David Wagner: We’re not finding it easy to create chances

The Royal Blues took a point from their away game at Mainz on Sunday evening (16/2). The coach and the players both agreed that the side is currently struggling to create chances. schalke04.de has summarised the post-match reactions.

David Wagner

David Wagner:

It was an intense game between two well-organised sides. Both teams struggled to create any real clear-cut chances. We didn’t play particularly well in the first half an hour, but the final 15 minutes before half time belonged more to us. We started alright after the break, although they were then on top for 20 minutes or so. I think it’s a fair result. We’re not finding it easy to create chances. We faced a side today who are fighting for every point. We’ll take a point and look ahead now.

Achim Beierlorzer:

That was a game between two well-structured teams. We would have taken nothing from the game if Weston McKennie had scored that header. The lads fight for one another and make it hard for the opposition to link up. We defended the way we had planned to today. We’ll take the draw.

Omar Mascarell:

We defended well and didn’t concede today. You have to take your chances if you want to win games of football. We need to improve on that side of our game. We know that our strikers will score goals again soon. We have a quality in our team and we’ve beaten really good sides already this season. We need to stay positive now and carry on believing in ourselves. They set up a lot better against us in comparison to the Hinrunde game, which just shows that we need to work on our game even more.

Michael Gregoritsch:

We had hoped to take more from today’s game. We weren’t able to create that many great opportunities. It’s a fair result at the end of the day. We’re lacking a bit of fluency in our game. We’re working really hard in front of goal at the moment. That fluency will come back soon and we’ll score goals again. We showed a lot of fight, got stuck in and will continue to give our all.
