“We didn’t take our chances”
FC Schalke 04 suffered a 2-0 home defeat on Matchday 8 to Werder Bremen. Domenico Tedesco felt the Green-Whites deserved their victory and praised their efficient and clinical performance. Guido Burgstaller and Naldo were frustrated with the missed chances.

Domenico Tedesco:
Congratulations to Werder, they deserved to win. They were efficient and clinical, something which we weren’t today. We wanted to break up the play in the first half and be strong at the back, which I felt we did well for the first 25 minutes. We kept them well away from our goal. Maximilian Eggestein took his first goal very well and then we were uncertain of our game again. We switched things up in the second half, with our plan being to win more second balls with some more direct play. Amine Harit immediately had a chance from the restart, and we had a number of good chances after this too. We should really have put at least one away. Ultimately they deservedly won.
Florian Kohfeldt:
We managed to control the game, which is very impressive considering how difficult an away game this was. We managed to score two goals at the right moments. Schalke also had chances to equalise, but ultimately I’m pleased with my team’s performance.
Naldo:
We had no presence in their penalty area. We stood very compact in the first 45 minutes and then concede from their first chance. Last season we are also very solid at the back, but were more clinical taking our chances. We were too naïve for the second goal, we just fell asleep.
Guido Burgstaller:
We conceded from Bremen’s first chance, which unsettled us a little. We came out positively in the second, put loads of pressure on up top and had some good chances – we have to score one of them. Perhaps we’re lacking a little bit of luck, Bremen scored two from their few chances. That’s effective. If you don’t score goals, you can’t win the game. We need to face up to the fact that we didn’t take our chances. Now we need to roll up our sleeves and continue giving our all.
