Domenico Tedesco: “It was an even game until the 60th minute”

Domenico Tedesco and Adi Hütter were both in agreement with each other after Frankfurt’s 3-0 win over Schalke. The head coaches both pointed to the 60th minute as a turning point and agreed that the win was deserved. Alessandro Schöpf also gave his thoughts on the game in the Commzerbank-Arena. Schalke04.de has summarised the reactions from the trio.

Domenico Tedesco

Domenico Tedesco:

Frankfurt deserved to win after their second half performance. We saw how dangerous they can be going forwards in the last 30 minutes. Before this, it was an even game, in which we managed to deal with their three dangerous strikers well. It’s not easy to defend against Sebastien Haller, Luka Jovic and Ante Rebic. We had planned to clear the ball as soon as we got it at the back as they don’t allow you any time to get the ball down and play it. If you try and play it about, Jovic and Rebic will fight for it back, just as they did for the first two goals. The situation surrounding the first goal was frustrating. Breel had the chance to put us ahead and could have been awarded a penalty. He carried on fairly though and tried to get the goal.

Adi Hütter:

There were very few chances in the first half. The main reason for this was because both teams worked well in and around their own penalty areas. Schalke defended very well. The turning point of this match was definitely Breel Embolo’s chance, which he was unable to take. Kevin Trapp did very well in this situation. Just seconds later, we scored. After falling behind, Schalke were probably missing the piece of luck they needed to equalise. We played very well in this period and kept up the pressure. My team deserved to win today. It was good fun to watch the players in action today.

Alessandro Schöpf:

I believe we played well in the first 60 minutes of the match. Shortly before falling behind, we should’ve taken the lead. I personally thought Breel Embolo was fouled in the box but the correct decision wasn’t given. We also made too many mistakes following this chance. In attack, Frankfurt played very well but we set ourselves up poorly. It is painful to lose 3-0 here after the way in which the match played out. We will review the match and build on our performance ahead of our upcoming fixtures after the international break.
