Domenico Tedesco: I’m delighted for the fans most of all

I’m delighted for the whole team and the clubs. Most of all, I’m happy that we could put a smile on the fans’ faces. They’ve been exceptional all season and we’re all grateful for that.

The game against Augsburg was almost a metaphor for the season as a whole. We started slowly but then improved and played with heart and passion. Today was anything but easy. Augsburg had a lot of hungry players who gave their all. They did very well but we defended even better.

Congratulations to FC Schalke 04 on finishing second. We put in a passionate performance. It’s frustrating that we came away with nothing. We were definitely capable of doing so. The Video Assistant could have intervened for the first goal we conceded and we should have got a penalty. That makes it frustrating. We have to go again and put in a top performance against Freiburg.
