Domenico Tedesco: Lost the ball too often

After a disappointing defeat in Leipzig, Domenico Tedesco and Ralph Hasenhüttl gave their thoughts on their side's first games of 2018.

They deserved to win. We have ourselves to blame mostly. We played well to begin with as we caused problems on the break after winning the ball high up the pitch. The goal we conceded was frustrating, especially so soon after Ralle’s incredible penalty save.

In the second half, we gave the ball away too much and Leipzig made us pay. We have to learn from the loss and we will.

Ralph Hasenhüttl:

Schalke were a tough nut to crack. They’re 13 games unbeaten and we hadn’t won in five. We decided to let our opponents come onto us and hit them on the break.

After the equaliser, I was impressed with how the team upped their level once again and deserved their win. When you can bring on the likes of Yussuf Poulsen and Timo Werner, it helps. I’m proud of everyone.
