Domenico Tedesco: “It’s a tough task that we’ll have to smash through”

There are a lot of things easier than playing Frankfurt away at the moment. Eintracht currently have the strongest home form in the Bundesliga and collected 13 points from their past five games. They’re also unbeaten in eight in all competitions. “It’s a tough task that we’ll have to smash through,” said Domenico Tedesco on the game.

Schalke’s head coach is confident that his team can cope with the task that lies ahead of them. After a mixed start to the season, Die Königsblauen have only lost one of their last nine games. “We’ve got our flow back. We can feel it on the pitch as well as in the dressing room,” said Tedesco.

The Champions League helps, but can also hinder

Schalke had opportunities at the beginning of the season, but now the team are using their opportunities and getting the rewards, says the boss. They can also use the momentum generated from their 2-0 win against Galatasaray midweek to their advantage. “The Champions League gives us power, but it also takes from us,” said Tedesco. Nonetheless, he’s expecting a strong performance from his side before the third international break of the season.

“We’ve got our flow back. We can feel it on the pitch as well as in the dressing room.”

In particular, Schalke will need to keep Frankfurt’s attackers quiet. Eintracht are currently averaging over two goals a game. “We have to defend well against Sebastien Haller, Luka Jovic and Ante Rebic, even if it isn’t easy. All three aren’t just dangerous in front of goal, they’re highly physical, too. The guys behind them are also playing well. Adi Hütter is spoiled for choice in a lot of positions,” said Tedesco.

Fährmann set to return

With the exception of injured players Hamza Mendyl and Cedric Teuchert, Tedesco has a full squad at his disposal. Ralf Fährmann, who was back in the squad against Galatasaray midweek, is fully fit following his muscle injury and will be back in goal against Frankfurt. Alexander Nübel will return to the bench.

Tedesco paid tribute to the Germany Under-21 international’s strong performances in recent weeks: “Alex did a great job. The decision for Ralle to play isn’t anything against Alex, but one in favour of our captain, who was also in good form before his injury. We are lucky to have more than one very good goalkeeper in the team,” added Tedesco.
