Thomas Reis: We’re growing more and more

Despite a good performance, FC Schalke 04 were made to do with a 0-0 draw against Borussia Mönchengladbach on Saturday evening (04/02). Both head coaches, as well as players Simon Terodde and Cedric Brunner, shared their thoughts on the game

Thomas Reis:

Mönchengladbach had more of the game in the first half, without being dominant. We stepped it up a level after the break and we were braver and more aggressive in our press. Taking our second-half performance into account, I think there was definitely more than just a point in it for us. We have to be more clinical in front of goal and score, and especially make better use of the ball when we win possession. The opportunities were there tonight. In addition, we allowed them very little and the boys showed for 90 minutes we’re still kicking and fighting as a team. We’re growing.

It is important that we finally start to reward our efforts, hopefully starting with the next game against VfL Wolfsburg. In addition to another good performance, keeping consecutive clean sheets is another positive. These two games give us something to build on. We have to add goals to our game. Once again, a big thank you goes to our fans. They supported us brilliantly and for phases of the game tonight it felt like a home game.

Daniel Farke:

I already knew before kick-off that it would be a very difficult game for us. It was a tough battle between two teams. As expected, Schalke fought hard showed how much they want to avoid relegation. Our football wasn’t good enough to but the game to bed early in the game and that’s why the game developed the way it did. We lost our structure in the second half and we lost our grip on the game. That’s why I’m not pleased with the second half. In the end, we had to make sure we didn’t lose. One positive we can take is that we kept a clean sheet for the first time in a while.

Simon Terodde:

Like last time out against Köln, we were solid defensively, but we were still missing something going forward when it came to scoring goals. Especially in the second half, there was a lot of action in the final third but unfortunately we didn’t get our reward. We have to keep working and training hard. We’ll take the point with us, as well as the fantastic support of the fans. They were great once again.

Cedric Brunner:

We didn’t allow Gladbach much and we had chances of our own, but unfortunately we didn’t have that little bit of luck that would have helped us go score. Keeping a clean sheet will always guarantee a point. One point doesn’t really push us on, but it’s better than none. However, we know that if we don’t start winning games, things will get very difficult. The passion and willingness that we’ve shown recently has been very convincing. We have a good team spirit; everyone fights for each other and gives everything for the club. That gives me confidence that we will achieve our goal come the end of the season. We now have to take the positives from the previous games and finally want to reward ourselves next time out against Wolfsburg.
