Guido Burgstaller: An unbelievable ball from Calli

After full-time in Leverkusen, schalke04.de spoke to a lot of smiling faces including Guido Burgstaller, Daniel Caligiuri and Breel Embolo for their thoughts on the 2-0 win.

Guido Burgstaller

Guido Burgstaller:

For my goal, it was all down to Calli’s pass. After that, I didn’t really think too much about what I was doing. I flicked it over the defender, carried on running and then finished it off. Of course, I’m happy it came off. The win was a very important one. We didn’t want to lose and we knew we’d have chances to win the game. It was a good performance against a very good team.

Daniel Caligiuri:

It was a game full of quality. We knew Leverkusen are very effective on the break. They have unbelievably quick wide players but we were calm in possession. For the goal, I just wanted to switch the ball after I’d got past a couple of their players. I hit it perfectly so it picked out Burgi. What he did next was simply sublime! All in all, it was a deserved win.

Breel Embolo:

It was a tough game for us. We had to work very hard up front but we did well I thought. Burgi’s goal was class. After the sending off, I didn’t think it’d be any easier. Sometimes it’s harder playing against 10. At the end, we should have put daylight between the sides earlier on. I include myself in that as I had a good chance to make it 2-0.
