Matthias Kreutzer: Play like this again and then get what we deserve

Despite an improve performance, Schalke lost 2-1 away to Hertha BSC on Sunday evening (23/10). Interim coach Matthias Kreutzer and defenders Mehmet Can Aydin and Cedric Brunner spoke to the media after the game in the capital.

Matthias Kreutzer:

We’re unfortunately going to head home with no points. We came really close tonight and just need to see the game out better next time. This performance was how we need to perform. We have to play like this again and then get what we deserve.

Sandro Schwarz:

It was a really difficult game today. Schalke were set up really well. We started brightly and had a few chances in the box. Once we had the ball, we couldn’t find enough space. Winning such a tough game like this in the way we did was simply a dream for us.

Mehmet Can Aydin:

We’re absolutely gutted to have lost this game. Despite that, today was a step in the right direction, we played better than we have recently. We defended well overall and they only had a few chances. Our attacking play was decent too and we unfortunately had two goals ruled out. We have to learn from this match, take the positives and do better at home next week.

Cedric Brunner:

Defeats are always disappointing, but this one is particularly gutting because we were in the game and felt like we could get something from tonight. Conceding at the end just after scoring ourselves was too naïve of us. We weren’t smart enough in the decisive moments and have to improve on that. We were also unlucky, with two goals from us being chalked off. A lot went against us, however that’s no excuse. We fought harder and it’s really frustrating that that hasn’t resulted in any points. We have to start collecting points again as soon as possible.
