Alex Král: We had plenty of experienced players on the pitch, which really helped us

FC Schalke 04 picked up three important points in their 5-2 win against Hertha BSC on Friday evening (14/4). Read on for all the post-match reaction from both head coaches, Dominick Drexler, and Alex Král.

Thomas Reis:

We started well in both halves. Tim Skarke’s goal really came out of nowhere. He’s shown in training that he has a strong shot. We then went through a phase where Ralf Fährmann made some good saves. Kenan Karaman put us back on course for victory. We all knew how important this game was, and the pressure that brought. That’s why we want to make sure we had as much experience on the pitch as possible in order to share this pressure. We’re happy to have kept all three points at home.

Sandro Schwarz:

The goals we conceded came from our own weaknesses when contesting challenges. There were a couple moments in the game where we were on the verge of making something happen. Just after the break, we had an opportunity to attack but instead conceded to make it 3-1. Overall, we defended poorly and deservedly lost.

Dominick Drexler:

We all knew how important this game was. If we want to stay in the Bundesliga, then we needed to win against Hertha. We were very self-critical after the defeat against Hoffenheim. You could see the passion with which we tried to win the game. The early goal we scored made it a little easier for us. As a team, we reacted well to all our injuries. The lads that came off the bench were ready to fight.

Alex Král:

That was an amazing shot from Tim to make it 1-0. I was stood right behind him. I wasn’t surprised by his goal because he’s scored plenty of goals like that in training. I’m very happy for the club and for the fans. We had plenty of experienced players on the pitch, which really helped us. We can enjoy the win tonight, but as of tomorrow we will be focused on our next challenge. Our remaining games will be a tough fight.
