Frank Kramer: We conceded at bad times

FC Schalke 04 endured a disappointing evening on Friday as they lost 3-0 to TSG 1899 Hoffenheim. Frank Kramer and his opposite number André Breitenreiter spoke to the press, as well as Simon Terodde and Tom Krauß.

Frank Kramer:

We are disappointed. The lads played with a lot of energy tonight. We were brave and tried our best. We attacked them, both with and without the ball. That got us a few decent chances, but we unfortunately conceded at bad times. It’s hard for a team when you concede two penalties. We reacted really well after the first one and got stuck in. We cannot be conceding a goal from our own corner though. We said at the break that we would try to stay in the game and get one back. It was tough to try and do that once we conceded the third goal. Hoffenheim put in a mature and solid performance in the end. The result is disappointing, but we played a lot better than at Leverkusen. The players showed they are willing to leave their all out on the pitch.

André Breitenreiter:

We put in a good performance and started really well. We deserved to take the lead too. We were a bit too passive after that and let them back into the game. The atmosphere is always really special here. We survived some close calls, their two shots that hit the post could have easily gone in. We got our goals at the right times.

Simon Terodde:

This defeat is really disappointing. We were desperate to find the right response to their first goal from the penalty spot. We felt good on the pitch and there was a lot of energy in the stadium, also thanks to the fans. The ball simply wouldn’t go in for us. We then conceded again in stoppage time of the first half. Anyone who has ever played football knows how gutting that is. 60,000 fans supported us throughout the whole game. We tried to play good football and create chances. Our fans are amazing for us, but we want to win a game for them again.

Tom Krauß:

We showed a reaction but suffered too many setbacks tonight. We had a few chances to make it 1-1 in the first half. I’m extremely frustrated that we conceded the second goal right before half time. Our defending for that goal wasn’t good enough. We started well in the second half, but then gave away another unfortunate penalty. You ultimately can’t come back from so many setbacks. We have lost again, so we aren’t happy. The defeat will still hurt tomorrow, but by Sunday we will already be talking about making the next round of the Pokal. That has to be our aim. We need to experience that winning feeling again, it’s really important.
