Moritz Jenz: Showed great morale to earn a point

The Royal Blues are still unbeaten after eight games in the second half of the season, although the team weren’t fully satisfied with their performance in Saturday’s 1-1 draw at FC Augsburg (18/3). Marius Bülter was able to rescue a point from the spot for S04 in injury time, as Schalke were unable to take advantage of their opponents going a man down.

“We should have done better after going a man up,” Moritz Jenz said afterwards, adding that Schalke were unable to control play in the middle of the park in the second half. Instead, the Royal Blues were too hasty in sending shots towards goal from midfield, which either went out of play or were caught by goalkeeper Rafal Gikiewicz. “We played a lot of crosses that didn’t find the target,” Tom Krauß said after full time. FCA’s Ermedin Demirovic was shown a red card in the 53rd minute by referee Daniel Schlager after kicking Krauß in the face.

Jenz nearly equalises

Arne Maier had put FCA 1-0 up shortly before Demirovic’s sending off. “We knew that it would be a tough game, very intense and a hard fight,” Jenz said, who came close to scoring the equaliser in the 89th minute from a corner. Unfortunately for the 23-year-old, his header went over the bar.

Everyone gets stuck in and would walk through hot coals for one another.

Using the break to prepare for the remaining games

With the arrival of the international break, Schalke will now look to use this time to prepare for their remaining matches this season and to make the necessary adjustments, both in attack and in defence. According to Jenz, “We want to give it everything we have in the nine games we have left this season!”
