Jochen Schneider: End the disappointing season with a win

Jochen Schneider saw two sides to Schalke in the 1-1 draw against Bayer Leverkusen at the weekend. “The first half wasn’t what we expected. It was a bit like a friendly game, the tension was missing,” said the 48-year-old. However, he enjoyed the second 45 minutes.

Schneider put the improved second-half performance down to Huub Stevens’ team talk at the break, with the Schalke manager still unbeaten in away games this season (two wins, two draws). “Huub had some strong words at half time. And they hit home. The team had a really good second half against a terrific Leverkusen side and deserved to take home a point,” he added.

Ten defeats in 16 home games, that’s not ok at our club.

Schneider wants Schalke to put in a similarly good performance for the whole match against Stuttgart. “It’s extremely important to end the disappointing season with a home win,” he said. Schalke can still finish a couple of places higher in the table, and Huub Stevens and his coaching team, as well as the fans, deserve a good send off in the VELTINS-Arena.

“I don’t want to use the word catastrophe, but ten defeats in 16 home games isn’t okay at our club. We have to put our full energy into this week so that we can win!” added Schneider.
