Jonjoe Kenny: Take the positives

FC Schalke picked up a point in their first ever match at the Stadion An Der Alten Försterei on Sunday (7/6) thanks to Jonjoe Kenny’s equaliser to make it 1-1. The goalscorer wasn’t entirely satisfied with the draw, but wanted “to take the positives from the game, as we took a point on the road.”

It was the English defender’s second goal in the Bundesliga, with his first also coming against a side from the capital – he scored the third and final goal in the 3-0 win over Hertha BSC on matchday 3 earlier this season. The win over the ‘Old Lady’ kicked off Schalke’s strong start to the season.

We need to carry on working hard and stick together.

S04’s form recently, however, hasn’t been up to scratch. “Things are difficult right now”, commented the 23-year-old. “A lot of things aren’t going the way we’d hope, but everyone is fighting as hard as they can. We need to carry on working hard and stick together.”

For Kenny, little things like goals can really boost the team’s morale. “We were shaken after going behind so early on,” reflected the right-back on Sunday’s game. “The equaliser gave us some more confidence though and we played better after that.”
