Manuel Baum: We need some success to get us back on track

Head coaches Manuel Baum and Lucien Favre gave their thoughts after the Revierderby, while Bastian Oczipka also spoke to the press.

Manuel Baum

Manuel Baum:

We lost possession too quickly once winning the ball back. We don’t have enough confidence at the moment and need to play with more energy. We need to get into the habit of wanting to score goals. We can’t just look to do a good job at the back. I’m optimistic that things can improve quite quickly. We need some success to get back on track though.

Lucien Favre:

I’m pleased with my side’s performance. We were patient, and we had to be. Schalke defended well and pressed high. It wasn’t easy for us, but we had three good chances in the first half nonetheless. It became easier after we took the lead, but it was still a difficult game for us.

Bastian Oczipka:

We weren’t good on the ball and we gave it away too quickly. That was the difference today. We pressed them higher up the pitch and wanted to put them under pressure. It worked for periods and it’s probably the only positive from the game. We were really, really poor on the whole; we weren’t good enough in possession. We’ll discuss it and we know where we have to be better. We go again on Friday.
