Marius Bülter: We have to start picking up points

It was an improved performance in the home game against SC Freiburg last Sunday (30/10), but S04 still slipped to a 2-0 defeat. Forward Marius Bülter is hoping to get back on track this Saturday night (5/11) away to fellow promoted side SV Werder Bremen. A win would be huge for Schalke for both the table and the team’s confidence levels.

According to the striker, confidence can be gained from training, but mainly from successful matches and positive results. “We simply need to win a game,” said Bülter before the trip up north. “The one thing you cannot accuse us of is not fighting to get out of this situation,” added the 29-year-old, who is optimistic despite the recent poor run. “We believe we can get something in Bremen.”

Be better on the break

The players and coaching team analysed the 2-0 loss to Freiburg together on Monday. One positive was the side’s improved organisation, while a negative was how “sloppy” the team were on counter-attacks. That’s one thing the squad has worked on in training this week.

Bülter revealed that new head coach Thomas Reis has provided a fresh impetus and the mood in camp is different to before. “It’s now up to us to put the things into practice that he wants us to. We’ll be successful again if we manage that,” stated the German.

We have to start picking up points!

The first opportunity to change the side’s fortunes will come on Saturday, ahead of two home games to finish the year off. The aim will be to go into the winter break on the back of at least one positive result. “It’s important that we work on our chemistry and how we want to play. It takes time to develop a new side, but we simply don’t have that. We have to start picking up points,” demanded Bülter.
