Marius Bülter scores February Goal of the Month

A special award for Marius Bülter: the Royal Blues’ number 11 has scored the Goal of the Month for February. The 29-year-old’s wonderful back-heel flick in the 2-1 win against VfB Stuttgart on February 25th received more than 123,000 votes.

It all happened in the 40th minute at the VELTINS-Arena, as Rodrigo Zalazar evaded Borna Sosa on the right wing and played a precise ball into the centre of the penalty area. The cross was beautifully dispatched by Bülter, who flicked the ball behind him with his right heel, into the bottom-left corner. The goal was no accident, either: the attacker scored a similar goal in November 2021 in a 2. Bundesliga match against SV Sandhausen.

Bülter won the vote on the ARD channel’s Sportschau show ahead of Marton Dardaí (Hertha BSC), Thomas Eisfeld (Rot-Weiss Essen), Paulina Krumbiegel (TSG Hoffenheim) and Manfred Starke (VfB Oldenburg). It was the first time that Bülter had scored a Goal of the Month.

This is the 29th occasion that a Schalke player has scored the Goal of the Month. The man who provided the assist for Bülter’s winning goal, Rodrigo Zalazar, won the award himself in May 2022 as he scored a ridiculous goal from the halfway line on the final day of the 2021/22 season against 1. FC Nürnberg.
