Mark Uth: We have to continue to work hard!

FC Schalke 04 secured a valuable point away from home in a 2-2 draw against Hertha BSC. Royal Blues head coach Domenico Tedesco and goal scorer Mark Uth both believed the visitors had enough chances to win the match. However, both were satisfied with a point from a contested match in Berlin. Here is the post-match reaction.

Mark Uth

Domenico Tedesco:

We made a good start to the match and controlled the play in the early stages. The two injuries to Alessandro Schöpf and Benjamin Stambouli hurt us badly and will also affect our preparations for the forthcoming weeks. Nevertheless, we didn’t drop our heads. Unfortunately, after retaking the lead, we were unable to hold on a 2-1 until half-time. This would’ve been important to turn the second half in our favour. The second half itself was very even. We created some good chances, but Rune Jarstein had a pretty much perfect second half. Additionally, Hertha created two or three good chances to counter attack and be dangerous in front of our goal. Overall, we have to accept the draw.

Pal Dardai:

We began the game well, but didn’t defend well on the left-hand side. We should have defended their long-distance goal better. After that we switched to a diamond and the game became a real fight. We could have won it, but so could Schalke. Unfortunately we were always chasing the game, as we never led. We still worked hard though and will live with a 2-2 draw.

Mark Uth:

We played well tonight, just didn’t manage to get that third goal in the second half. Given our chances, I would say that this is two points dropped. Getting a point in Berlin is alright though, because it’s always hard to get a result here. We fought hard and played well, so we can move forward with that. I’m obviously happy about every goal I score – it’s nice to start the new year like this. It was outstanding play from Bastian Oczipka that led to my goal. We want to make amends for the first half of the season and play nice football for our fans. We need to carry on like this!
