Revierderby to take place at the VELTINS-Arena on matchday 12

The fixtures for the 2026/27 Bundesliga season are set to be released on Thursday (2/7). As part of the Bundesliga City Challenge, details on select matches are being unveiled with the help of clues throughout various cities in Germany.

The first match to be announced was the clash between the Royal Blues and their Revierderby rivals. With the help of clues released in the official Bundesliga app, fans had to find the hidden locations in Gelsenkirchen and Dortmund to uncover the prospective dates of the Revierderby.

The last clue was released on Monday (29/6) at 15:00 CEST. An envelope had been hidden at Berger See, close to the VELTINS-Arena, and was found in just 04 minutes by Schalke fan Daniel.

The information inside the envelope revealed that the Royal Blues will be at home for the first Revierderby of the season, which is set to take place on matchday 12 (4-6th December 2026). The reverse fixture will take place in Dortmund on matchday 29 (9-11th April 2027).

Schalke will find out the order of their remaining 32 matches when the Bundesliga fixtures are officially released on Thursday (2/7).

S04 relegated after 4-2 defeat in Leipzig

Despite an excellent second half of the season and a committed performance away to RB Leipzig on the final day on Saturday (27/5), FC Schalke 04 were relegated to the second division. The Royal Blues lost 4-2 in Leipzig, even after coming back from 2-0 down to make it 2-2. A point would not have been enough for S04 due to VfL Bochum’s win and VfB Stuttgart’s point.

Thomas Reis: Focusing on ourselves and not other results

Thomas Reis will not be worrying too much about the other results around the grounds on matchday 34 in Leipzig. “We know that we need a good result ourselves,” said the S04 head coach before Saturday’s game (27/5, 15:30 CEST). Schalke go into the final day in 17th place, one point adrift of both 16th (the relegation play-off position) and 15th (safety).
