S04 to face FC Bayern on matchday 1 of 2020/21
FC Schalke 04’s 2020/21 Bundesliga season will kick off away at FC Bayern in Munich. The season opener is scheduled to kick off at 20:30 CEST on 18th September, although this could change.
If FC Bayern reach the Champions League final on 23rd August, the game would be moved to Monday, 21st August. The season would then begin with the match between Borussia Dortmund and Borussia Mönchengladbach.
“The first game of the season being in Munich is obviously going to be tough,” said Head of Sport Jochen Schneider. “Overall, our first few games will be challenging, but they are all against exciting opponents. We will prepare as best we can.”
Matchday 2, which will take place between the 25th and 28th September, will see the Royal Blues host Werder Bremen. The DFL announced the schedule on Friday morning, with exact kick-off times to follow.
The first Revierderby of the season will come on matchday 5 away in Dortmund (23rd-26th October). The final game of 2020 will see S04 host promoted side Arminia Bielefeld in the VELTINS-Arena. That matchday 13 fixture will be played between the 18th and 21st December. S04’s first game of 2021 will be in Berlin, away to Hertha BSC (2nd-4th January).
The season will conclude on 22nd May 2021 – Schalke will travel to face 1. FC Köln on matchday 34.
