S04 to start the Bundesliga season away to 1. FC Köln

FC Schalke 04’s 2022/23 Bundesliga season will begin with an away game against 1. FC Köln on either the 6th or 7th August.

1. FC Köln - FC Schalke 04

“We’ll start the season in front of a full house, and there’s a bit of a rivalry there. It will be a really tough game, not just because Köln had a great season last year and made Europe,” said sporting director Rouven Schröder. “Nevertheless, we will be up for the challenge and will be counting on the support of our fans that carried us through last season. We know that we will need enough points to stay up and we want to start picking them up on the first matchday. We can’t wait to get going.”

Schalke’s first home game of the season will be against Borussia Mönchengladbach between the 12th and 14th August. The two local derbies, against VfL Bochum and BVB, will take place in consecutive weeks. S04 will host Bochum (9th – 11th September), before making the short trip to Dortmund a week later (16th – 18th September).

Due to the World Cup in Qatar, which will be held from 21st November to 18th December, the final matchday of 2022 is scheduled for 13th November 2022. On matchday 15 Schalke will host FC Bayern at the VELTINS-Arena. League action will finally resume on 20th January 2023 with a trip to Eintracht Frankfurt. The final matchday of the season will be an away game at RB Leipzig on 27th May 2023.

Exact dates and times for all games will be announced a few weeks beforehand. Only the official opening game – Bayern away to Frankfurt on 5th August – and matchday 34 have already been scheduled.
