Schalke look to end Freiburg’s home streak

After two home games in a row, FC Schalke 04 are once again on their travels. Next up for the Royal Blues is a trip to the Schwarzwald-Stadion on 4th November (15:30 CET) to face a Freiburg team that is still yet to lose at home so far this season.

However, the men from Breisgau still have a slight blemish on that home record. Four of the five games that they have played there have ended on draws. “Freiburg have had a lot of misfortune so far this season,” said Domenico Tedesco. As a result, Tedesco is making sure that his team does not underestimate last year’s seventh placed team. “They’re a team that fight from the first minute until the last and are very dangerous – especially at home,” warned the 32-year-old.

They’ll definitely make it hard for us.

“They’ll definitely make it hard for us,” predicted Tedesco after sitting down to watch a few of Freiburg’s recent performances. They were especially unfortunate in their most recent game against Stuttgart, after going down a man thanks to a red card that was given to. Caglar Söyüncü for a hand ball. The final score was 3-0 to VfB Stuttgart. “I think things would have turned out differently if both teams had eleven players for the whole game,” said Schalke’s coach. Söyüncü will miss the game against Schalke as a result of his red card.

Schalke will also be without a crucial player of their own in Freiburg. Leon Goretzka is still recovering from a leg muscle injury. “It’s not too bad,” said Nouri. “We’re hoping that he’ll be back to full fitness in the near future.” Pablo Insua is also out due to injury. The Spaniard is on the road to recovery from his chest problems, reports Axel Schuster. It is likely to still be a quite a while until the defender is available to return to the pitch.

On the flip side, Matija Nastasic returned to team training after a period on the sidelines with bone edema and is available for selection ahead of the trip to Freiburg. “He obviously has to get back up to speed after his rehab,” explained Schalke’s coach. Nastasic has put in a lot of good work throughout his recovery period. Whether the Serbia international will join the squad in Breisgau will be decided after the final training session.
