Squad update at the start of the new week

Thomas Reis’ side trained on Monday (27/3) ahead of Saturday’s home game against Bayer Leverkusen. 19 players were involved in the session, the first of the week.

Dominick Drexler, Eder Balanta (thigh problems) and Rodrigo Zalazar (foot problem) all returned to training, while Thomas Ouwejan was able to complete the full session after playing the friendly against Venlo last Friday (24/3). Tim Skarke (foot) and Danny Latza (calf) completed parts of the session. Marcin Kaminski wasn’t involved with his teammates. He trained individually instead and will hopefully be able to take part in some form of team training by the end of the week.

Kenan Karaman (calf muscle strain) and Moritz Jenz (pulled hamstring) are currently not training. Sepp van den Berg (ankle) and Jere Uronen (adductor) will not be options for the weekend. The aim is that the pair will return to team training in April.

Alex Král (Czech Republic), Mehmet Can Aydin (Turkey) and Henning Matriciani (Germany U21s) are still on international duty, while Tom Krauß left on Sunday (26/3) and is expected back in Gelsenkirchen on Tuesday (28/3).
